Be my mouthpiece, bitch!

Yay, the newspaper published my screed!

And quite a screed it is. 😀

Always fun to strew the antagonist’s blatant entrails of hypocrisy about for all to see…

Nice work, Owen 🙂

What if it was a Naderite who tore them up?

Like you said, it’s a screed, and it’s cool to vent. But it’s not facts and… I dunno… I’m tired of Republican bashing. Bashing the neo-conservative faction of Republicans, okay. But just general anti-anyone-but-us-Democrats sentiment is really pervasive lately, and it’s getting kind of old to me.

well since every other topic on this site tends to gravitate back towards politics, I’ll jump on the bandwagon for this one too.

I think this election basically boils down to one question: Would you rather protect your money/ecomonics or your personal freedoms and rights?

mallorn - October 20th, 2004 at 8:35 pm

And if you want to protect either one . . . vote Kerry.

ShortSpeedFreak - October 20th, 2004 at 9:58 pm

Uh-oh, mallorn’s pulling a Cassandra… Given a slightly cynical *cough* realistic appraisal of typical human priorities, I think money comes first. If your simplification holds, all the Democrats are fucked. 😉

You’re right — it could have been a Naderite (though.. less likely, I think).

And I don’t really mean to give the “general anti-anyone-but-us-Democrats sentiment,” but I am just really concerned about getting Bush out of office. I’d like to use the excuse that I’ve been around more political apathetics and ignorant Bush supporters lately than you have, but that’s probably not accurate — I still live in Boulder, afterall. But, basically, Bush really scares me, and maybe I can use the excuse that I’m a woman to justify that fear — if I ever accidently get pregnant, I want to know I can easily (legally) fix that mistake and not let it ruin the rest of my life plans (not to mention the unwanted child’s). My rights and my control over my life are a really big deal to me… No, it doesn’t completely justify the bashing, but it makes it a bit understandable, I think.

And, not to do male bashing, but I think some of these basic rights are things that men take for granted… (If one condom breaking could ruin a _man’s_ life plans, would that even be tolerated for a moment in our society?)

Well, talking to people at work- many of whom make buckets of money- the simplification doesn’t hold across the board. Lots of think of it as their civic duty to pay taxes and to vote for somebody who wants to improve the state of affairs in the country and the world. Unlike the current president who hates minorities, hate women, loves fetuses, hates people on death row, hates the American economy, and hates grammar.

The real deal concerns how many people are disenfranchised THIS time around. Especially since the most recent Gallup poll gives Bush an 8 point lead (not that point spreads matter that much) AND the poll has revealed to have very little validity concerning the actual make-up of the electorate. Here’s the shortest article I found debunking that most recent poll: http://www.theleftcoaster.com/archives/003054.html

ShortSpeedFreak - October 21st, 2004 at 5:23 pm

Just to go back to the Bush-bashing briefly… I saw a bunch of Kerry-bashers today (College Republicans near the UMC) — they were carrying lots of Bush and Coors signs, and some were dressed up as dolphins (saying how Kerry is a “flipper” ) or waffles (again, the flip-flopping). I felt kind of sorry for them if that was the best they could do…

Teisha - October 21st, 2004 at 5:41 pm

Shoulda made that known to them 🙂
