Just wanted to share that my first first-author paper is now online! In the journal Stem Cells and Development, here’s my paper on “Roles of Integrins in Human Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell Growth on Matrigel and Vitronectin.”
Along with my usual rent bill, I received a little memo from my Landlords this month (thankfully to all tenants, and not just to me).
In the letter, they seek to clarify “several questions regarding… payment policy”. Which is to say, they answer some questions abotu what forms of payment are acceptable, where to give them the payment, and when the payment is due.
They take great pains, however, to discourage late payment (past 5 days overdue), up to and including mentioning that “the bank has been instructed not to accept expired coupons.”
That, of course, is followed by “Late rent payments are a violation of the lease agreement and are grounds for eviction.”
Wow… Glad I’ve never been out of town around rent-payment day. Or is this par for the course?
As I have lived in many different apartment complexes over the years I have to say that this isn’t too far off base. Most places make threats like this but they vary on how much they enforce the policy. One of the places I lived at would only give you 1 business day or it was late. So if your ever going to be out of town you’d better pay early.

Just read a fascinating (if lengthy) essay on disruptive technology and the future of scientific publishing. Well worth the read!
Just wanted to share Mint.com’s Visual Guide to Deflation, which is quite explanatory.
