Just wanted to share that my first first-author paper is now online! In the journal Stem Cells and Development, here’s my paper on “Roles of Integrins in Human Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell Growth on Matrigel and Vitronectin.”
Over the last few days, this blog has been harassed by spammers, putting long comments crammed full of links in various posts– But, fear not! I’ve been working on it, and hopefully improved functionality of this site, to boot!
If you log in to write an entry, you’ll immediately notice the difference– I upgraded to a new version of the blog software, with better spam protection and lots of little fixes. Hopefully, it’ll make the site more stable (fewer unexpected log-outs, etc), prevent spam, and generally make things nicer. Woohoo!
The only limitation it’s conceivable you might encounter is that comments (not posts, but comments) can’t contain more than 8 links…. I don’t think I’ve seen anyone get that high, but just FYI.
I can’t post an entry on your system. I have to log in any time it tries to access a pivot page. So I’ve written an entry, but when I press “post”, I have to log in again, and it doesn’t post the entry.
Owen - February 5th, 2005 at 1:34 pmUpdate: So, I CAN post, but only using IE. Firefox and NS don’t like Pivot, and it doesn’t like them right back. BTW, yes, this is using the “remember that I want to stay logged in” function.
Owen - February 5th, 2005 at 1:36 pmThat’s…. odd, Owen. I exclusively use Firefox (and have IE disabled on my system), and I’ve never had problems. I’d make sure you’re using Firefox 1.0, don’t have cookies disabled for my site, and kick your box a few times to sort it out.
Paradoxdruid - February 5th, 2005 at 2:21 pmSo far, my new comment spam protection system has blocked almost 2 dozen spam comments… Looks like it blocked whatever bot(s) were hammering me.
There’s always the chance of false positives, though– has anyone had trouble posting comments? I realize that if you can’t AT ALL, then you can’t reply here (if so, e-mail me). But maybe just on one computer or something… in any case, I’d love to hear, make sure I’m not stopping anyone from commenting (as you should, if you read this, somewhere on the site! nudge, nudge
Paradoxdruid - February 7th, 2005 at 6:45 amThey have bots that now post on to blogs? Ah let the adware/sweeper wars begin.
Gilvoro - February 11th, 2005 at 8:59 amActually, the people who work on pivot blogs have pretty much stopped it… pivot blacklist has lota of ingenious measures to prevent it.
But yeah.. sheesh! Spam everywhere!

Just read a fascinating (if lengthy) essay on disruptive technology and the future of scientific publishing. Well worth the read!
Just wanted to share Mint.com’s Visual Guide to Deflation, which is quite explanatory.
Hey all Paradoxdruid readers! I recently started up a blog on stem cells that I’d love you all to take a look at: http://www.allthingsstemcell.com/
I participated in another Barely literate book review podcast, this time on Nicholson Baker’s “The Fermata”. Give it a listen!
Obama has outlined a strategy for America, in great depth. Read all about Change.gov!
Okay, I’ll admit that it’s entirely possible that I am the last person to learn about this website*, but it’s really addictive.Â
