Just wanted to share that my first first-author paper is now online! In the journal Stem Cells and Development, here’s my paper on “Roles of Integrins in Human Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell Growth on Matrigel and Vitronectin.”
I think its about time that I write down the crazy shit my co-workers do. Since most people I have enjoyed the stories about the pain that Delightful Delila, I thought I keep a community log so that everyone could share in the joy. I like to call todays story “The blood type and personality factor”
So this week I am working the pleasent swing shift (4pm-midnight). Not only does this shift interfer with any sane sleeping schedule, I am also working with Miyoung. Now Miyoung grew up in S. korea and is still trying to learn the english language. This has led to several exchanges where I am rather certain she was just nodding and smiling because she hadn’t the foggest what I was saying.
Anyway about half way through the night, to turns to me and ask me “Whats your blood type?”. I mean this the first thing I ask my co-works just to make sure that if there is a freak accident with the milk-press that some one on hand has the correctly blood type to keep me alive. For some reason when ever I am think about what blood type I am I want to responded AB. However I am actually A-. Which is compeletly besides the point. So back to the story, I responded “AB”, to which Miyoung says ” I thought so.” After pressing her for a few minutes on what she meant, Miyoung finals says “you can tell some bodies blood type by there personalilty.” Now I have heard alot things being tied to personality but blood type? Shortly after shocking me with this little tidpit about blood factors, she says “my sister is AB too. She is selfish.” Perhaps I am missing something, but my train of logic would led me to the conclusion that I was also selfish. Which may very well be the case but I am pretty sure that I haven’t done anything at work that would identify myself as such. So at this point I was to flabbergasted to come up with a reasonable responce so I just let is slide with minimal comment.
So my question to the group is does anyone have the chart for personality charcterists for differen’t blood types?
So I guess she wants to go fuck herself, then, huh?
Owen - August 10th, 2004 at 7:54 amHoly shit! That is one of the coolest work horror stories that I’ve ever heard, Jim! ..which kind of sucks for you, when you thnk about it.
So, a quick search:
* This link ( http://www.factmonster.com/ipka/A0877658.html ) about blood types says that “In Japan, the idea of blood type as personality type is so popular that Japanese ask βWhat’s your blood type?β about as often as Americans ask βWhat’s your sign?β ”
* Here’s a link explaining the personality types for different bloodtypes: http://www.cascadebloodcenters.org/fyi/002.htm
Type AB is “Cool and controlled, you’re generally well-liked and always put people at ease. You’re a natural entertainer who’s tactful and fair. But you’re sometimes standoffish, blunt and have difficulty making decisions.”
Weird ass shit.
Paradoxdruid - August 10th, 2004 at 8:51 amI’m so glad that I don’t have stupid co-workers. Four people with PhDs in physics, one other graduate student (Electrical Engineering) and one undergraduate in business who has been working at NIST for a couple of years now (she writes all of the reports).
hillsr - August 10th, 2004 at 11:05 amWow . . . I really wish I knew my blood type so that I could make use of some of these fun and exciting online resources . . . And, Gilvoro, it’s just for a week. You should ask her what her blood-type is and look it up online. π
ShortSpeedFreak - August 10th, 2004 at 12:12 pmYou know, I don’t know my blood type either. Every time I have blood work done, I forget to ask until afterward when I receive the results, when I inevitably get told that “you need to ask beforehand, because it’s a separate test.” Someday…
Paradoxdruid - August 10th, 2004 at 3:13 pmWe need to hear more Delila stories! >-D
Paradoxdruid - August 10th, 2004 at 3:42 pmI’m O+, but I know that my genetic code is OO+- because my mom is O-.
hillsr - August 11th, 2004 at 1:46 pmI’m Type A. Just me, but, um… I really don’t think I match that description.
Owen - August 13th, 2004 at 10:35 amOwen, do you mean to tell me that you’re disorganized and relaxed? I . . . I just don’t know if I can deal with that or not. π I think if I had to guess my blood-type based on the personality descriptions I’d select Type A. But maybe that’s just me.
ShortSpeedFreak - August 13th, 2004 at 5:33 pmWell, according to that website, I think I’d be type O. *shrugs* Then again, I’ve always been amazed at the coincidence between by personality and my zodiac signs (Leo in Western, Metal Rooster in Eastern).
Paradoxdruid - August 14th, 2004 at 9:16 amYeah, funniest thing Meg, but I seem to be π
