Just wanted to share that my first first-author paper is now online! In the journal Stem Cells and Development, here’s my paper on “Roles of Integrins in Human Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell Growth on Matrigel and Vitronectin.”
I finally got around to taking pictures of my new apartment, for all to see. Give them a look-see. Warning: bandwidth intensive (little thumbnails in the post, but fairly large images on which to click)
I’ve tried to arrange the photos into a kind of tour, with little thumbnails and everything. We’ll see how it works.
The road towards my apartment
My front door
The view upon opening the door
The bookcases I somehow filled up all by myself
A better view of my dinner table
Looking towards my living room from the dinner table
My futon and its mound of pillows
Side view of the futon and my lizards
View of the living room away from the futon
View from sitting on the futon
A cramped-looking shot of my kitchen– it”s about the same size as my old one
The left side of my bedroom
A useless shot of the middle of my bedroom
The right side of my bedroom
My new bathroom
The road towards the beach from my apartment– it’s about 2 blocks till it dead-ends in a path
My Mom on the path to the beach
The end of the path, and the start of the beach– the beach is 15 minutes of slow, relaxed walking away from my front door
A picture of me walking the beach– yurk, I look bad
My Mom walking the beach
To end on touching note, my Mom in the kitchen doing my dishes 🙂
There ya go, kiddos!
I like the new digs. And how did you fill up the bookcases? . . . Role-Playing books, you madman. 🙂 Where’s your dad in all these pictures?
ShortSpeedFreak - August 11th, 2004 at 5:12 pmMy Dad had to fly back to Denver early to tend to all the funeral business and such (poor guy). Hopefully, he can come back to visit in a few months, and I can take him kayaking or something.
Regarding the bookcases- one used to be Katherine’s books, and somehow I filled it mostly up with just my stuff. *shrugs*
Paradoxdruid - August 11th, 2004 at 5:21 pmI love the color of all of the counters. 😉 Yellow is definitely you.
hillsr - August 12th, 2004 at 1:25 pmWhere are you going to Roleplay? Perhaps the pictures make it look small but I mean I don’t see how your going to fit 4+ people around that table . 😉
gilvoro - August 12th, 2004 at 1:30 amThe photos don’t do the counters justice, actually- they’re not that bad.
Regarding the dining table- yeah, it’s cramped. So was my old one. So it’ll be a repeat performance of “table shuffle” to roleplay. Or just sitting around on the futon. I think I’ve officially reached the stage of roleplaying where I prefer system-lite games to the near exclusion of all others.
But come on- no other comments on my photos? I spent a good half hour taking, uploading, organizing, and linking to these images. ::pretend-pouts::
Paradoxdruid - August 12th, 2004 at 5:39 pmJust need to roleplay in your bedroom.
😀
Owen - August 13th, 2004 at 12:56 pmI’ll humor you. What lovely picutures, Druid! Oh, how I swoon!
But, really, I do have two (main) questions for you (along with some imbedded ones):
A) Did you really, actually take that ripped director’s chair? (Are you going to fix it? Was it just a reminder of Gilvoro?)
B) Why, oh why, do you still have that leopard print monstosity (aka blanket) that I gave you? (especially in the living room?)
Owen, you sick dog. I guess the photo of my closet doesn’t show the handcuffs hanging, does it? But they’re still there. But that’s not really roleplaying you need dice and a table for. 😛
ShortSpeedFreak- okay, yeah- I did take the ripped chair, in the hopes of fixing it. The folding chairs were Laika’s, so I needed SOMETHING for when couch-space was at a premium. I’m gonna go shopping for a new cover this week! I’ve just been a little busy is all.
Also, I love the monstrosity. It’s just the right level of coziness for me.
So… when are people going to come out and visit me, huh? 🙂
Paradoxdruid - August 14th, 2004 at 2:28 pmIt’s _kind_ of a part of my apartment… Anyway, I took a little picture of:
” !https://old.paradoxdruid.com/deskthumb.jpg! My current computer desktop”:https://old.paradoxdruid.com/desktop.jpg
Yeah, that is Windows XP, somewhere under there. 🙂
Who is that? Enoch? Poor baby . . . you didn’t even acknowledge him!

Just read a fascinating (if lengthy) essay on disruptive technology and the future of scientific publishing. Well worth the read!
Just wanted to share Mint.com’s Visual Guide to Deflation, which is quite explanatory.

Okay, I’ll admit that it’s entirely possible that I am the last person to learn about this website*, but it’s really addictive.ÂÂ
