iBook Frenzy

What happens when someone gives away hundreds of iBook laptops for $50 each? A riot. Particularly telling is the guy who smashed people with a chair when they cut in front of him. He said, “I thought it was just.” What is wrong with people?

One Response to “iBook Frenzy”

I understand and agree with your comment about crowd control. Several other articles about the riot (which I didn’t link to) take more care to reproachfully point out where the county organizing this event went horribly wrong. When several thousand people are lined up hours before the gates will open for one thousand laptops… you should *maybe* think about trying to keep it orderly.

But still– I find mob mentality (or maybe just the average American insensitivity to violence) outrageously shocking. Hitting someone with a chair to get a laptop is not remotely justified. Nor is trampling an old man.
