Just wanted to share that my first first-author paper is now online! In the journal Stem Cells and Development, here’s my paper on “Roles of Integrins in Human Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell Growth on Matrigel and Vitronectin.”
So, since I’ve been stocking up on Halloween candies, I thought I’d toss this out there — what’s everybody’s favorite candy, not necessarily Halloween-related?I’ve always been a big fan of the peanut butter/chocolate combinations, and of those my favorites are probably Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and Fast Breaks. For those of you who don’t know about Fast Breaks (they’re not that big, surprisingly), they have milk chocolate and a thick peanut butter center and were a long-time candy bar favorite of mine… I’m also big on nuts, so PayDays are great too. (I don’t mean to be a promoter of Hershey’s, but they make some good stuff!) Seasonal-wise, candy corn/pumpkins are good too for a quick pure-sugar rush. Anyway, there’s my little sweet tooth rant — anybody else have some candy confessions?
Candy confessions, eh? Sounds like a soft-core porn show on HBO. 🙂
I, too, am a peanut butter fiend, so I’m obsessed with *Reese’s Piece’s* and *Reese’s PB Cups*, but I also have a deep longing for *Snickers*.
Less typical candy that I die for: I really dig the little chocolate mints with white sprinkles on top of them… I also like the mini *Dove* chocolates.
More importantly– Candy corn? *Yeech!* There’s no way in hell you could pay me to eat that stuff… might as well eat *Peeps* while you’re at it.
Oh! I remembered one more– as a kid, I used to love *Caramel Squares*. Mmm mmm good.

stephen - October 23rd, 2005 at 8:05 amHey Stephen…will you post your fudge recipe? I..um…lost it. Again. I tried to fudge it (hehe), and failed. miserably.
Aside from that, I have a weakness for gobstoppers. I used to buy them in 4-6 lb increments 😛 Oh! and Sour gummy worms!

Teisha - October 23rd, 2005 at 10:51 am1 cup semi-sweet morsals.
1/4 cup cinnimon chips
3/4 cup white chocolate chips
Half of a thingie of unsweetened chocolate, and by thingie I mean two chunks of the four that come in a full bar chunk.
1 can of sweetened condensed milk.
Dump all that in a microwave safe dish.
Microwave for 2 minutes.
Stir.
Microwave for 1 minute.
Stir, and add 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and stir until smooth.
Poar into another container and put into a fridge uncovered.
Does Safeway still sell those mint chocolate cups?
The grocery stores out here suck. They’re expensive and no Safeway Select brands!

Sorry the Blog hasn’t been updated much lately… My 20-page Candidacy Exam is sucking away all my urge to write.
Then again, other people could always write posts… 😉

Just read a fascinating (if lengthy) essay on disruptive technology and the future of scientific publishing. Well worth the read!
Just wanted to share Mint.com’s Visual Guide to Deflation, which is quite explanatory.
