I know where I’ll buy my next Laptop

I’m a big fan of the Ubuntu Linux operating system. Among other reasons, it’s easy to use, and all the programs are free– Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Photoshop, you name it– they have open-source equivalents that kick butt and are easy and painless to install for free. Now, a company called System76 is offering Notebooks and Laptops with Ubuntu pre-installed and with full hardware technical support. Go Linux! If you’re shopping for a new computer, think of them.

And just so, I have purchased a Koala Mini (a linux-based Mac mini clone) from them. Huzzah!

Wow, you didn’t even mention how you’re going to best utilize it’s tiny size by hooking it up to the TV! I can’t believe that’s all you posted about your beloved Koala Mini after incessantly drooling over, and then finally purchasing, it.

I’m glad you’re so excited about it, even if you didn’t write much to that effect 🙂

I figured that I’d save my manic ravings for when it actually arrived… Then I can include “action photos” and stuff. Woo!

But yes, drooling with anticipation. Along with the recent revival of my GPS Map navigator for my car and running Windows virtualized inside Linux at work, I’m in geek heaven.

It is pretty cool to see someone selling computers with linux on them. I’ve been thinking about getting a laptop to use as a lab computer when I go to grad school. I’ve gotten used to using linux since I made the switch last summer and wasn’t liking the prospect of most computers coming with windows preinstalled since I would probably almost never use it.

Lately I’ve actually become a bit of a Arch Linux fan over ubuntu. Though that’s probably mostly because I’ve moved into the phase of learning linux where I want to learn how to tweak things, and being a more stripped down system arch is a bit more conducive to that. Ubuntu was a real good for me to start with linux on though
