Gun Death Info-Graphic

The NY Times recently had a fascinating (and sad) info-graphic examining the breakdown by cause, ethnicity, and gender of Gun Deaths in America.

Very sad, of course… It is interesting though that the rate of black male homicides decreased with age, while the rate of white male suicides greatly increased, though it’s hard to really tell if there is a real increase relative to the entire population size since there are probably more white males over age 40 than in the age other groups listed. Of course, you already know how I feel about how lax the gun control is in this country.. if anything positive is to come from the Virginia Tech tragedy, I hope it’s a thorough re-examination of this country’s gun control policies.

I thought this old article on Switzerland and Guns was relevant. In short, they have LOTS of guns, but vanishingly small gun crime. But don’t have serious drug or poverty problems, which is where most US gun crime comes from, and every male citizen is a member of their army and reserves.

The number of gun suicides in America astounds me, though.
