Just wanted to share that my first first-author paper is now online! In the journal Stem Cells and Development, here’s my paper on “Roles of Integrins in Human Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell Growth on Matrigel and Vitronectin.”
So I got home last night turned on my computer and try to access my back up hard drive. My computers response was the E:\ is not formatted woudl you like to format it now.
Of course my reply was “no not really I would like to be the way it was when I left it” So after playing around a bit I found that yes indeed the entire contents of the drive is gone. Which really is a pain in the ass because I had all of my MP3 music on it (which I stole from PD when we lived together), many many game patches and reasources that I had collect over the last 8 years. Now its all gone. And I have a blank hard drive with nothing in it. Man I hate that.
My computer has done this a few times, and it’s not always due to an actual hard drive failure.
First, turn off your computer, open up the case, and shoot a LOT of compressed air in there, specifically around the hard drive region. Supposedly they’re sealed, but… Next, kind of “jiggle” your computer case around, lightly. Then, try to boot up and access it again.
If that doesn’t work, ask Stephen for a Knoppix disk. Even if windows won’t recognize it, the data may still be there, waiting to be accessed.
…On a side-note, this was your back-up hard drive. Is it still under warranty? Most hard drives come with a 1 to 2 year warranty from the manufacturer.
Paradoxdruid - August 28th, 2004 at 2:05 pm( shakes head ) Forgot to read the rest of your post before I blithely posted, but at least part of what i said was valid– get a Knoppix disk from Stephen and see if you can recover the files before you do anything to the drive.
Paradoxdruid - August 28th, 2004 at 2:07 pmAnd now the poor fool, the poor Gilvoro, is busy reformatting my computer while I sit here and happily tap away at his keyboard. I really hope it’s not as evil as it was the last time I had to have it done . . .

Just read a fascinating (if lengthy) essay on disruptive technology and the future of scientific publishing. Well worth the read!
Just wanted to share Mint.com’s Visual Guide to Deflation, which is quite explanatory.
